Spring and Flowers…. Everyone knows those go together! Here we’ve had the beautiful dogwoods blooming all around town and lovely irises blooming along our front walk.
These adorable Easy Fabric Puff Flowers in pots are a great project for this time of year. I made several of these to decorate the tables in the fellowship hall of my church for a special meal. And then… since they turned out so well and truly are EASY!… I made more for a house warming gift for my mom. They can be made in any color combo you choose!
Easy Fabric Puff Flowers
You will need a 4″ clay pot…. Spray paint it whatever color you choose. Mine is a dark tan color.
Next find some fabric scraps. You will need enough to cut 5- 7″ circles for petals and 2- 7″ circles for the flower centers. I found that the lid to my oatmeal container was the perfect size to trace around and use as a pattern for my circles.
There’s only one sewing step to this project and that comes next! Set your machine to a basting stitch and baste around each circle 1/4″ from the edge.
Then pull your threads to gather each circle like this.
Now, get some fiber fill and separate out small amounts.
Each petal will be stuffed until it is a rounded ball. You may need to stick your finger in and spread the filling around evenly so your petals are equally rounded. Try to make them all the same size.
Your flower centers will be less filled and less gathered…..like this. These, too, need to be identical in size.
And now it is ready to be glued together!
Get your hot glue gun plugged in and ready…and be sure you have plenty of glue sticks.
First you will glue the flower centers together, placing the glue around the raw edges and stitching.
Now we will attach the petals. Be sure to evenly space them and simply glue around the openings of each petal, gently pull apart the flower center, and put the petal in. There! Isn’t it beautiful?
For the stem, we will use a 1/4″ dowel rod wrapped with floral tape or painted whatever color you would like. Mine is cut to about 7 1/2″ and is wrapped in green floral tape. Decide which petal is the top and then push your stem in, through the bottom, letting about 1/2″-1″ into the flower center.
Next, prepare the inside of your pot by glueing down a small square of foam to hold the dowel rod in place. Fill the rest of the pot with moss or shredded paper or any kind of filler you would like. I also tied a piece of satin ribbon around the top of the pot for an extra touch.
Push your stem down into the pot and…. you’re finished!
