Ingredients
Cupcakes
-
1 chocolate box cake mix
-
1 small instant chocolate pudding
-
1 cup sour cream
-
1 cup oil
-
4 eggs
-
1/2 cup milk
-
1 tablespoon vanilla
-
1 cup mini chocolate chips
Frosting and Filling
-
2 8oz cream cheese, softened
-
1 2lb bag powdered sugar
-
1 tablespoon vanilla
-
1 8oz tub cool whip
-
12 finely crushed Oreos
Instructions
Cupcakes
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Beat all ingredients, except the chocolate chips, for 2 minutes. Fold in chips.
- Fill cupcake liners half full. Bake for about 16 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Let cool completely. (I like to make mine a day or more ahead of time and put them in the freezer immediately after cooling. This method keeps them very moist.)
Filling and Frosting
- Beat cream cheese and vanilla until smooth. Beat in powdered sugar. Fold in cool whip and crushed Oreos. Refrigerate for an hour before decorating cupcakes.
Assembly
- Fill cupcakes and pipe a mound on top.
- Decorate with an extra half Oreo.
- Keep refrigerated for best results.

February 17, 2019How long can these be frozen for?
Elisabeth Judy
February 19, 2019These unfrosted cupcakes can be frozen for a couple months. I like to wrap them in plastic wrap and then place them in an air tight container in the freezer. It gives them some extra protection and they always taste great…. you can’t even tell they were frozen!
We do not recommend freezing frosted cupcakes.

July 24, 2020Yes my frosting tastes great but is runny as well. It’s probably not going to pipe it on the cupcakes.

June 23, 2020Made these last year for my son’s birthday and they were a big hit! Making them again this year and I am using the same cake recipe but instead of adding Oreos to the icing I will be splitting the batch and coloring them red, black and white for a Pokémon ball cupcakes. Tried and true recipe!
