TIPS AND QUESTIONS ABOUT CROCHET BORDERS
What kind of border should I use?
The border you end up choosing is totally up to you! If you’ve crocheted a blanket that has a very busy pattern, I recommend choosing a simpler border.
If your blanket is a solid color, one-stitch pattern, you can add some fun with a border that’s ruffly, lacy, or 3D-looking.
What is the best crochet stitch for a border on a blanket?
There is no right answer to this question. 😁 The best one is the one that looks great for your project!
Try to pair similar styles – if you have a chunky blanket, don’t choose a frilly or lacy border, choose a sturdier or very simple border.
The most important thing is to imagine the two designs together and decide what looks good to YOU.
How do you crochet a ruffle border?
A ruffle border is made by stitching two or more stitches for every one on your blanket. Five or six stitches for every stitch on your blanket will make a VERY pretty, ruffle border.
The border “ruffles” when you are crocheting extra stitches into each blanket stitch because there is no room for your border stitches to spread out.

How do you crochet a pretty edging?
If it’s a pretty edging you’re looking for, I recommend choosing one of the more lacy patterns in this list.
The hearts and flower borders in this list are also very pretty, especially for a baby blanket!
How do you crochet a simple edge?
It depends on how simple you want to keep your edge. If your only concern is tidying up your edges and giving your blanket a clean edge, while featuring the stitches in your blanket, you could actually just single crochet or double crochet around the edges of your blanket!
That would be a very simple edge that would allow the actual blanket to be featured more than its border. The crab stitch linked above is also a great simple option.
If you want a simple edge that looks more like a patterned edge, the rib border or moss stitch border are clean and flat, yet they look “finished.”
How do you add tassels to a crocheted blanket?

I really like the flowers #9 and both heart borders #23 and #24.. plus several others.. I was wondering if the number of base sts could be adjusted
. Like it says multiples of 3+1 or 4+3… Can the larger hearts have only 2 between them..? Can the flowers have one less st between them.. I made a small blanket and it has 452 total sts.. I put 4 in the corners… Idk what else to do.. a shell doesn’t work I’m using a baby variegated around 9 granny squares.,

I really like the heart borders and the one pink flower border the best but like them all.. I’m trying to figure out which I can use for the number of stitches I have.. and with the way I did the corners.. I did a few rounds of sc and did 2 in each of 2 corner sts then 2 each in 2sts… (2nd st of the 1st 2 and 1st st of the 2nd 2.. so idk how to work a good border the way I have it.. lol
