I’ve been seeing this DIY Dollar Tree pedestal bowl project floating around on the internet so I decided to try it out for myself. I conveniently have a Dollar Tree close to my home and I love saving money on home decor ๐Ÿ˜‰ So naturally, I had to make one.

I was searching the web to see about how much this type of ‘real’ pedestal bowl costs and I was surprised how much! Yes, I understand they’re real ๐Ÿ˜‰ but I would much rather DIY it and make these than pay for the real ones.

Supplies needed for this project:

  • glass cup
  • plastic bowl or deep plastic plate
  • super glue, hot glue, or any strong adhesive
  • spray paint (I used this texture paint and this primer)

I got enough of the supplies to do two of these pedestal bowls; but the second one that I made, I wasn’t really thrilled with. I’ll try to see what I can do to make it look more exciting but for now, I’m loving the granite one that I made!

The fun thing about this project is that you can mix it up however you want to make it any size. I got this glass cup that’s about 7-8″ tall for the base. For the top part, my Dollar Tree was out of most of their plastic bowls so I settled for this plastic serving bowl from the party section. It was a little deeper than I had hoped to get but it still turned out great I think!

And in typical SixCleverSisters fashion, I found my spray paints on clearance at Walmart ๐Ÿ™‚ My husband and I just happened to stop in Walmart a few days before I planned to do this post and as we were browsing the random clearance items, my eyes lighted upon these! Haha. How perfect ๐Ÿ˜‰

I needed one matte primer color to do under my textured paint so I got this neutral ‘Matte Clamshell‘ color.

Once you have all your supplies out and ready, you’re going to want to glue the bowl to the cup. I originally did hot glue but it didn’t feel tight so my husband used some Gorilla Glue sticky tape instead. We’ve used that for multiple things around our house and we just love it!

After you’ve adhered your top and bottom pieces together and they’ve dried, it’s time to paint.

I chose to do this project in the dead of winter which meant I couldn’t spray paint outdoors. It was a chilly 15 degrees and windy, so my husband threw together a little cardboard painting station for me in our basement.

I started with one coat of the paint and primer-in-one to give it a base coat before I sprayed the texture spray paint on. I did the base coat on it upside-down and then flipped it right side up and sprayed the base coat on the inside.

After the base coat dried, I did two coats of the texture spray, making sure to let it dry completely between coats.

I started with it upside down to paint – when that was done and dried, I flipped it right side up and sprayed the texture on the inside.

*My husband put a piece of paper under the bowl so I could easily use it to turn the pedestal bowl without messing up the paint.

Let it dry completely and decorate with it however you want! I just love the texture this paint provides!

I am pretty happy with the way this project turned out – my husband says it could be a fruit bowl. I got these cute artificial boxwood fillers from Target and filled the bowl with them. I also have the matching boxwood 60″ garland above the window in my living room.
