How to Personalize a Charcuterie Board with a Cricut (No Engraving Required)

If you’ve ever wanted to make a personalized charcuterie board but don’t own a laser engraver, I have good news—you don’t need one!

This easy Cricut project gives you the look of engraved wood using a simple vinyl stencil and a wood furniture touch-up marker. The result is a beautiful custom charcuterie board that’s perfect for weddings, anniversaries, housewarming gifts, or Christmas.

I used the Better Homes & Gardens Charcuterie Board with Tools from Walmart, and I was honestly surprised by how expensive it looked once it was personalized.

The best part? The entire project took less than an hour.

Supplies You’ll Need

• Charcuterie Board
• Cricut cutting machine (any Cricut will work, I have the Explore)
• Cricut Design Space
• Removable adhesive vinyl
• Transfer tape
• Weeding tool
• Hair dryer
• Wood furniture touch-up marker (I used a Seisso’s “chestnut”)

Ok, now for the step-by-step instructions:

Step 1: Design Your Personalization

Open Cricut Design Space and create your design.

I chose two first names connected with a heart because I was making this as a wedding gift, but you could also personalize your board with:

• Family name
• Monogram
• Wedding date
• Anniversary date
• “The Smith Family”
• Established year
• Short meaningful quote

Step 2: Cut Your Cricut Stencil

Instead of cutting permanent vinyl, cut your design from removable vinyl.

After cutting, weed away the letters so the empty spaces become your stencil.

Use transfer tape to position the stencil exactly where you’d like it on the board.

Once it’s in place, press it down well with your fingers or a scraper tool.

Step 3: My Secret Trick for Crisp Letters

This is the step that made all the difference. Do NOT skip this step.

Before applying the stain, I grabbed a hair dryer and warmed the vinyl for about 30 seconds.

The gentle heat softens the adhesive so the vinyl molds tightly into the tiny grooves of the wood grain – you’ll see the vinyl actually shrink up a touch with the heat.

This simple trick helps prevent stain from bleeding underneath the stencil and gives you much sharper lettering.

Don’t skip this step! It only takes a minute, but it’s what helped my finished board look clean and professional.

Step 4: Color the Design

Instead of paint or wood stain, I used a wood furniture touch-up marker.

Simply color inside the stencil openings until all of the exposed wood is covered.

The marker absorbs into the wood and creates a stained appearance that looks much more natural than paint sitting on top of the surface.

If you’d like a darker finish, let the first coat dry for a minute or two and apply a second coat and even a third coat until you get good contrast.

Step 5: Peel Away the Vinyl

Carefully remove the vinyl stencil once the stain is dry.

Watching the letters appear is easily the most satisfying part of the project!

I absolutely love how this turned out, and I know the bride-to-be will love this gift!

Instead of looking like vinyl stuck onto the board, the personalization actually looks like it has been professionally engraved or burned into the wood.

The dark stained lettering complements the natural wood beautifully without overpowering it, making the board look like something you’d find in a boutique gift shop.
