I love making pallet signs! One of my first blog posts ever was a DIY Pallet Sign that still hangs in my house today!

If you want your sign to look more rustic, maybe have uneven edges, etc., head back to my first DIY Pallet Sign post for easy instructions on a one-sided pallet sign.

This reversible pallet sign has even edges and a thin “frame” around it that results in a more clean-cut look. Both styles are gorgeous – just choose which one is right for you! I’ve actually got both going on at my house and they look fine displayed together.

If you prefer the die-cut wood look (instead of painted words), try this budget-friendly, NON-expensive letter idea!

HERE’S HOW TO BUILD A REVERSIBLE PALLET SIGN:

1. The first step in making a reversible pallet sign is to cut your pallet pieces to equal lengths. We’ll be adding a “frame edge,” so make sure they’re even.

I like to sand my pallet pieces down before I glue them together. I love my palm sander because it makes this part of the process so much easier!

2. The next step is to use wood glue and a clamp to piece together your reversible pallet sign. Remember, you’ll use both sides, so wipe down any excess glue from both the front and back before it dries.

I always use Gorilla wood glue because it’s so strong! If you don’t already have a clamp, make sure that you purchase one that’s big enough for how big of a sign you plan on making. Mine is an 18″ bar clamp, but I could use a 24″ as well!

3. After you’re sure the glue is cured (usually 24 hours), you can stain or paint both sides of your sign. (This is easier to do before attaching the “frame.”)

I chose to paint one side black for a chalkboard look. The other side I “white-washed” by dipping my paintbrush in white paint, then wiping the excess off on paper towel – when my brush is basically dry, I dry-brush my wood and it gives it that whitewash effect.

4. Once your pallet pieces are glued together and stained or painted, you can attach frame edges, which will give it a cleaner look, as well as give extra structural support.

If you’re confident in your glue and its strength in holding your pallet pieces together, you could skip this step! I’ve done smaller signs without the frame edges, but for larger ones, I prefer a little extra stability just in case. 😉

I picked up some thin wood edging at my local hardware store, then cut pieces to fit the edges and used BOTH wood glue AND small nails to tack it into place. I chose to paint my frame edges *before* attaching them, to make it easier, and I went with black for this specific reversible pallet sign.

5. Last step is to transfer your design and paint it on!
