S’MORES BARS
We love s’mores, so we make them year-round!! (Either a sheet pan full of these bars, or over the stove or in a skillet!)
S'mores Bars {to feed a crowd}
Ingredients
Crust
- 2/3 cup margarine, melted
- 3 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 6 Tbs sugar
Brownie Layer
- 2-9x13 brownie mixes, and ingredients called for on the box
Topping
- 6 cups mini marshmallows
- 8 whole graham crackers, broken into small pieces
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 4 Hershey's milk chocolate bars, broken into small pieces
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350°. Generously grease sheet pan or 2 9x13 pans.
- Mix crust ingredients and press into bottom of pan. Bake 10 minutes.
- Make brownie batter as directed on box and gently spread over graham cracker crust. Bake 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Set oven to broil.
- Immediately sprinkle marshmallows and graham pieces over the brownies. Broil about 5 inches from heat for 1-2 minutes until marshmallows are golden.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
- Let cool 20 minutes, then top with Hershey pieces, sticking them into the warm marshmallows.
- Cool completely and cut into bars.
***When you are using the broiler on your oven, be sure to leave the oven door cracked and keep a continual eye on them! All broilers are different, as soon as you see the marshmallows browning and swelling, they are very close to done. My broiler does not distribute the heat perfectly, so I end up rotating the pan a couple times to evenly brown the top. Just like when roasting marshmallows over a fire, they got too hot, they will catch on fire! So please be careful. We love the roasted marshmallow campfire taste the broiler gives and I have never had a problem with them burning or catching on fire.

June 30, 2019OMG these are so delicious. I had the littles test bite before dinner (such a tease). I will definitely keep the recipe in my favorites file. Next time I will cut the recipe in half to feed a smaller group.

July 1, 2019So glad you enjoyed them!! Definitely one of my favorites too.
I love the option of making the big pan for a crowd or a 9×13 pan for a smaller group. 👌🏻

July 5, 2019Had these bars at a picnic, they were the only dessert that had NO leftovers!! I got the recipe and I’m making them right now! Wondering if you refrigerate the bars?

June 9, 2020Yay for a successful picnic dessert! 🙂
No, you don’t have to refrigerate them.

August 30, 2019Hello! Is there a particular reason you call for margarine vs butter in this recipe? Can either be used?
Rachel Barkowski
June 9, 2020Either one is fine! Some of us girls use butter and some use margarine.

October 19, 2019HI – Tried some other smores bars, but would like to try with your brownie addition. Can I make this with 1/2 sugar to make a little less sweet. Not sure if the sugar is needed to keep crust together.
Rachel Barkowski
June 9, 2020Yes, you can use just 3 T. of sugar! 🙂

May 18, 2020I hate to be Debby Downer but please edit your recipe to call for more space from the broiler. I originally had the sheet on middle rack and I went back and read the 5-6 inches so moved the pan up the top rack. It started an oven fire and ruined my cabinets above. Very scary. It is my fault and mine was probably 3 in. away from broiler but would love to prevent another fire. Thank you.

June 3, 2020If I cut the recipe in half, do I just use one 9X13 pan?
Rachel Barkowski
June 9, 2020Yes, you do! 🙂

October 30, 2021Do you have a guesstimate on how many bars this recipe makes? I know it would vary some based on size of bars you cut.
