Let’s talk yarn–

For years, I always used this Sugar and Cream yarn. It comes in solid colors, variegated colors . . . LOTS of choices. It also comes in a large cone. You can make a lot of knit dishcloths with this size cone!

Recently, I’ve come across this cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby. I absolutely LOVE it! There is such a variety of colors and variegations; there are 71 choices on Hobby Lobby’s website!  Unbelievable! 🙂 Plus, I know that every other week, Hobby Lobby has all of their yarn 30% off, so I can grab whatever I need and it’s all on sale! Win-win! Knit Dishcloth | Knit Dishcloth Pattern | Knit Dishcloth Free Pattern | Knit Dishcloth Pattern Easy | Knit Dishcloth for Beginners | Knit Dishcloth Tutorial | Beginner Knit Dishcloth Pattern Free | Knit Dishcloth Pattern Free | Knit Dishcloths Free Patterns | Looking for an easy knit dishcloth pattern? One thing you have to remember is that the yarn has to be 100% cotton. It’s a must!

So, whatever yarn you choose, just be sure it’s 100% cotton, a yarn weight of #4, and have about 2-2.5 ounces to work with.

Grab some size size 7 or 8 knitting needles and let’s get started!

  2. I love this pattern. I have actually used it with a long circular needle to make blankets. Just keep increasing until you can’t handle any more stitches, then start the decreasing. Have used Red Heart worsted weights on size 9 & 10, diff. colors & varieties, stripes or solids, use your imagination. These make up some heavy blankets that are so nice & easy to knit while binge watching your favorite TV shows 😉 on a snowy or cold day 🙂 Just had to share this. Happy knitting to all 🙂

  5. What is the name of the multi coloured wash cloth colour? Is it Hobby Lobby ‘I love this cotton’ – A walk in the park? Hobby Lobby blocks international access to their site so it’s a bit difficult to identify. I really like the colours for a comfy cardigan.

    • Yes, it is Hobby Lobby’s ‘I Love This Cotton’ yarn! I believe the color is 342 Pink, Green & Purple. Yes, that is the name of the variegated color. A little weird, I know. Another close one to that is Eastern Nova. It is not A Walk in the Park, although that is a pretty one!

  6. On row 3 do I knit 1 where it says to knit 1 do I do that for all of the following rows after that?

    • After you have 48 stitches on your needle, you will knit row 3.
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Continue knitting that same row pattern over and over and over until you only have 4 stitches left on your needle. Hope that helps!

    • Thank you so much for replying to me. I understand it better. Thank you for helping me 🙂

  7. This pattern is so easy to work with. I love it.

  8. Don’t understand the knit 2 then yarn over?

  9. My decrease towards the end gets really stretched out, how is thjs avoided?

This pattern works great with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn leftovers to make quiet fidgets for preschool/kindergarten students with sensory issues. Make about the size of a pot holder. They can put their fingers through and stroke it like they would a blanket. Have made them for several teachers and little ones who need something to replace their blankie!

  11. I’m back, having learned several cast-ons, as well as knit and purl via YouTube! My mom did teach me knit and purl almost 60 years ago, so they did come back, as well as how I always saw her hold her working yarn! Kinda funny how that was almost automatic, from seeing her adjust so many times–feels like I’m channeling her mannerisms!

Ok, so what does yarn over mean? Is it like when I move my wkg yarn from front to back between knit and purl? Is that why it looks like I dropped a stitch sometimes?? Which I probably do, half the time! LOL! How would that work if only knitting?

    Thanks for responses!

  12. Are you serious? I am a total beginner, and I thought the Six Clever Sisters pattern would teach me how to get started. How do I cast on? How do I knit stitches? What does thread over mean? Guess I’ll be back when I’m not a beginner.

    • I’m a total beginner too – I have knitted a scarf. Look up on YouTube how to cast on. You’ll find awesome how to videos exactly what you need. I don’t get this pattern either but one day it will make sense so keep it bookmarked and come back. There are lots of things to find that you can do 🙂
YouTube is the best I think!

  13. OMG! I thought these dish cloths were crocheted 100%. I can’t tell you the private tempter tantrums I’ve had trying to crochet them. Things get thrown, messes are made. My Mom (1400 miles away) says she knits them. GAME CHANGER! I can DO this.

  14. What is the name of the color of yarn in the first 5 pictures of working the pattern? I would love to get this color!

  15. I use Plymouth Fantasy Naturale. It’s mercerized cotton that never loses color and stays strong. I always use a size 7 needle. The garter stitch is great for counter cleanup.

  16. Do you have problems with the cotton shedding in the dryer? I have lint on the dishcloths which is frustrating. I have been using Dishie and Sugar and Cream yarns. Thank you for the pattern. It is slightly different from the pattern I’ve been using. I’m anxious to try yours as it seems simpler than mine.

  17. Thanks for the great pattern
