Sourdough Crackers (2 Ingredient Recipe)

Sourdough crackers are a staple in our household! My toddler daughter especially loves these. Every time I make them, she begs and begs for them while they’re still cooling. I love that I can give my kids healthy sourdough snack options and they enjoy them.

Sourdough Crackers (2 Ingredient Recipe)

These crispy and tangy crackers are the best way to use up sourdough discard!

Ingredients

  • 100 grams sourdough discard
  • 10-12 grams oil (or melted butter)
  • seasonings of your choice

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

2. Whisk together discard and oil/butter until completely smooth.

3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

4. Spread the mixture on to the paper, getting it as thin as you can. Take your time with it so you can get the crackers as thin as possible. *After you've spread it super thin, sprinkle with whatever seasonings you want.

5. Place the pan in the oven for 10 minutes.

6. After 10 minutes, remove the pan and using a pizza cutter, cut the crackers into squares. You can size these as small or as large as you want.

7. Put the pan back in the oven and turn the heat down to 350. Bake for another 20-30 minutes, until golden brown.

8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before snapping apart and placing on a rack or paper towels to cool completely. I keep mine in a airtight glass jar for up to 2 weeks.

I like having this recipe in my back pocket to make whenever I want. My basic rule of thumb is to use 10-12 grams of oil or melted butter for every 100 grams of sourdough starter. So some days, I might make a huge batch of crackers with 400 grams of starter and 40ish grams of oil or butter. I have been using olive oil or avocado oil more than butter lately, but that’s just my preference. If you do want to use melted butter, I do recommend browning it nicely to add that extra depth of flavor in your crackers. Browned butter makes everything better is what I always say.

Some of my favorite seasonings to use on these sourdough crackers are everything bagel seasoning; Italian seasoning and parmesan cheese; sesame seeds; a variety of seeds such as flax, sesame, and caraway seeds.

The fun thing about these crackers is that you can customize them however you want with whatever flavors you want!
