You only need a few supplies to make these simple stars.

  • yarn in multiple colors and textures
  • cardboard
  • hot glue gun
  • pattern, included at the end of this post

I made my stars in a neutral rustic colors, but don’t be afraid to try something different. Try bright reds and greens. Or burgundy and hunter green.

I prefer neutrals to match my rustic decor. Choosing yarn was fun… I knew I wanted a few shades and textures, so I used a mix of some cottons and twine.

How to make ‘Yarn Wrapped’ 10 Minute Star Ornaments

I included a pattern for you with the star in 3 different sizes, so you don’t have to go searching for a star shape! Download the pdf, print it, and you will have 3 different size stars all on one page. This makes it very convenient if you are using this for a group! Just print out one pattern page for each guest.

When you start ordering Christmas gifts from Amazon and you end up with loads of cardboard haha, don’t throw it all away! Save what you can for these stars! Using the pattern as a guide, cut out as many stars as you want to make.

Before you start wrapping each star with yarn, you’ll want to attach a small loop to the back of each star for a hanger. I used a light weight twine, but you can simply use a strand of whatever yarn you already have for the project. A hot glue gun is going to be your friend in this project!

Now begin wrapping! I used a dot of glue on each tip to keep the yarn in place. When the star is completely wrapped, use another dot of glue to hold the strand in place on the back side.
