What Is Christmas Pictionary?

Christmas Pictionary is a seasonal twist on the classic drawing and guessing game. One person draws a holiday-themed word or phrase while others try to guess what it is—before the timer runs out! It’s simple, silly, and always a crowd-pleaser. This is an easy game for kids of all ages.

Whether you’re hosting a Christmas party, planning a classroom activity, or just want a cozy night in with family, this game fits the bill. Download and print your free Christmas Pictionary words, gather around the Christmas tree, turn on the Christmas music, serve up hot chocolate, and start this great game!

I have created free printables of word lists in 7 different categories. Categories such as Christmas traditions, Christmas songs, Nativity words, etc. Use your home printer and print the free printable cards on white cardstock. Cut the Christmas Pictionary word list into cards to start the game.

How to Play Christmas Pictionary

You’ll need:

A dry erase board or drawing paper (any type of drawing board)
Markers or pens
Timer (optional)
Our free printable word lists (keep scrolling for the download link!)

Instructions:

Divide into two teams.
One player from the first team draws a word from the list (the person drawing is not allowed to talk or write any words!!). As they draw, their team members can start guessing the word or phrase that is on the card.
Their team has 60 seconds to guess the word. (of course the time limit is completely optional, but it tends to make the game run more smoothly. 1-2 minutes is ideal.)
If they guess correctly, they earn a point.
If the team does not guess the word or phrase prior to the timer going off the opposing team gets one guess. Then it’s the other team’s turn.
Keep playing until you’ve gone through all the words—or until the Christmas cookies run out!

Scoring: If the team drawing guesses the correct answer before the timer goes off they get 1 point. If they don’t get the word and the other team guesses it, that team then gets the point. If no one guesses correctly no points are given that round.

A few variations:
*Try blindfolding the player who is drawing! This is sure to bring on some laughter.
*Use the cards for a game of charades instead of Pictionary. Have each player act out a word for their team to guess.
*Have both teams draw at the same time for a fast-paced, shout out match. See which team guesses the word first!

Free Printable Christmas Pictionary Word Lists

I’ve created free printable pages of 7 different categories for a total of 84 cards. You can either keep them separated by category during the game and let the teams know which category is used in each round. Or you can simply choose categories that interest you and mix the cards together before the game. You could also sort out a small stack of easier words for the younger kids.

I recommend printing on a heavy cardstock for durability. Or if you have the time, laminating each card will help them last from year to year!
