Supplies You’ll Need:
To get started making Cricut earrings, you’ll need these materials:
- Cricut machine (Explore Air, Maker, or Joy…..I have the Cricut Explore Air 3 and LOVE it, but a Cricut Maker or Joy works great, too)
- StrongGrip cutting mat (I get mine at Hobby Lobby, or Amazon has them.)
- Deep Point Blade
- Faux leather (THIS PACK is my favorite, and they have lots of other color options)
- Earring hooks and jump rings
- Jewelry pliers or needlenose pliers
- Weeding tool (Dollar Tree has these!)
- Our “earrings” file in Cricut Design Space

How to Make Faux Leather Cricut Earrings:
Step 1: Go to our design in Cricut Design Space
You’ll need the Cricut Design Space app to start, but if you’ve used your Cricut before, you’re probably all set up with this! Start by selecting our earring design (CLICK HERE). Or – you can find tons of free SVG files online or create your own in Cricut Design Space. Popular shapes include teardrops and geometric styles.
Step 2: Prep Your Material
You’ll want to use a strong grip mat to keep your faux leather sheet secure. (Cricut’s is the purple strong grip mat, but other brands use other colors – always read which type it is to make sure it’s strong grip.) Place it face down on the mat so that the fuzz from the back of the faux leather sheet doesn’t stick to your mat. HOWEVER – the glittery sheets in the pack I purchased would NOT stick face down, so I put glitter side up to cut those ones and dealt with picking off the fuzz afterwards.)

If your mat is not new/very sticky, secure the edges with masking tape (painter’s tape) to be sure it stays in place. (Mine was totally fine without masking tape, but if you try this and love it and switch to real leather, you should tape the edges of that genuine leather down to prevent shifting.)
Step 3: Cut Your Earrings
When you’ve pulled up the earring svg file in Design Space, you can do a test cut on paper or some extra faux leather material to see if you like the earring size. If you want any of them made smaller, go ahead and adjust the size by selecting the earring of your choice and resizing it. You can also only select the ones that you want to cut and hide the others. I cut different sizes on different materials to have more of a variety of finished earrings!
The small circle on the top of each earring can be hidden if you prefer to use a leather punch instead. I actually saved the insides of the earrings that I weeded out – I just used them as small teardrop earrings and punch a hole in them with my weeding tool!
When you’re ready to cut, browse the material settings to find “Metallic Leather”. Load your deep cut blade, insert the mat, and press Go. Watch as your Cricut precisely cuts out your earring shapes!
I had no problem with my machine cutting the tiny holes in the top of the earring, but if yours doesn’t cut through, you can use your weeding tool to help punch that hole through. The deep-cut blade does a great job with this, though!
TIP: When I downsized my earrings quite a bit, I needed to change my material settings to “Cardstock, Intricate Cuts” in order to get those tiny cuts. Otherwise, my knife blade was pulling the tiny pieces up and ruining them. So definitely experiment if your machine struggles with a certain setting!
Step 4: Assemble the Earrings
There are a couple of hacks I use to attach the earring hooks. If you’re using a jump ring on your earrings, you’ll notice that the direction of the loop on the earring hook is going the same direction as the jump ring, which causes your earring to twist sideways when you’re wearing it.
To avoid this problem and have the earring hook and jump ring going in opposite directions, there are a couple of options:
1. Open a jump ring (one of those tiny gold hoops) using your jewelry pliers, slide it through the hole in the earring, and then before attaching that to the earring hook, take your pliers and twist the bottom loop of the earring hook by 90 degrees. (see my photo below) Your earring will stay straight if you do this! Yay!
2. Another option is to avoid the jump ring altogether, as long as the earring holes are close to the edge of the earring. I grabbed my needle nose pliers and pried the loop at the base of the earring hook open a little bit, attached the leather earring, then squeezed it shut again.
I prefer this option to avoid the extra length on my earrings.
Tips for Perfect DIY Leather Earrings Made on Your Cricut
- Use a fresh fine-point blade to get clean cuts, especially on thicker materials. (The right tools make it work!)
- Save scraps from faux leather to make different styles of earrings (which make great gifts!). It only takes a tiny amount to start a new project, making this such a great option for Cricut projects to sell!
- Layer different shapes and textures for a unique, dimensional look. (Some have added iron-on vinyl or glitter iron-on in simple shapes to add different layers for a unique look! 100Directions has some pretty layered earrings HERE!)
- Store your earrings in a jewelry box or display them on an earring holder. (THIS DIY EARRING HOLDER from Jennifer at The Chronicles of Home looks so easy and looks gorgeous!

- Creative Market (remember, many of these have tiny details and many not cut well from leather – but these on vinyl layered *over* leather would be so fun!)

Make sure any file you download is compatible with Cricut Design Space – PNGs, SVGs, JPEGs are all ones you can use in Design Space, so most files work.
