Here’s a quick video that shows how to reuse candle jars for an easy DIY gift!

I have several old candle jars that I need to reuse….I could just never bring myself to throw them away because I knew eventually I’d think of something perfect to do with them – this week I finally found the perfect way to reuse candle jars, and I got going right away!

It’s so simple….I’m not sure why I never thought of this before now!

The first thing I did was clean out my candle jars.

This is a lot easier than you might imagine — I just set my candle in a saucepan with a couple inches of water and turned it on medium until the candle wax melted. Then I poured the melted wax into some silicone molds that I have so I can use the leftover candle wax. Then I quickly wiped out the jar with a thick layer of paper towels to get any residual wax out. (You need to do this while the jar is hot to get the best results, but be very careful!)

Next, I hot glued rope around my candle jar.

Use thick or thin rope for different looks!  (I used THIS COTTON ROPE for my second jar, and I love the soft look!)

Start from the base of your candle jar, and make sure to glue the end down well.

Also, your candle jar will have a “front” and a “back,” so whichever side your rope end starts on, try to finish on the same side so both the “stop” and “start” are on the back.

I stopped gluing about an inch from the top of my candle jar, but just go for the look that you like!

Add small rocks for drainage.

Before you plant the succulent in your candle jar, you’ll want to add small rocks inside the bottom of the jar so that your plants can drain well. Succulents especially need rocks when they are planted in a non-draining pot.

Plant your succulent!

Plant your succulent, making sure to keep the soil loose (no need to pack the dirt down in there).
