The Easiest Knit Dishcloth – free pattern that is great for a beginner!
If you’re a beginner knitter and are looking for an easy knitting pattern (free, too!) check this one out. This is the easiest knit dishcloth pattern ever! It’s a project you can whip up during a couple of Hallmark Christmas movies, too (yes, I just might know this by experience! 🙂 hahaha)
So, if you’re stuck inside because of a pandemic or a snowstorm or just want to make something, grab some cotton yarn (like this) and let’s create!
Lemme tell you, these make really cute Christmas gifts to give to teachers, a host, a co-worker, a friend, a delivery person, your hair stylist; everyone loves them! Pair it with a Bath & Body Works holiday soap, and it makes a cute gift!
When we were growing up, our grandma always had these knit dishcloths in her home, and it wasn’t too long before we would learn how to make them ourselves.
Let’s talk yarn–
For years, I always used this Sugar and Cream yarn. It comes in solid colors, variegated colors . . . LOTS of choices. It also comes in a large cone. You can make a lot of knit dishcloths with this size cone!
Recently, I’ve come across this cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby. I absolutely LOVE it! There is such a variety of colors and variegations; there are 71 choices on Hobby Lobby’s website! Unbelievable! 🙂 Plus, I know that every other week, Hobby Lobby has all of their yarn 30% off, so I can grab whatever I need and it’s all on sale! Win-win!
One thing you have to remember is that the yarn has to be 100% cotton. It’s a must!
So, whatever yarn you choose, just be sure it’s 100% cotton, a yarn weight of #4, and have about 2-2.5 ounces to work with.
Grab some size size 7 or 8 knitting needles and let’s get started!
EASY KNIT DISHCLOTH:

Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 48 stitches on the needle.
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat Row 3 until you have 4 stitches left on the needle. Cut your yarn leaving several inches.
Slide those last 4 stitches onto a crochet hook and loop the tail and last stitches one through the next as shown in the pics below. Pull tight to secure.

September 8, 2023On row 3 do I knit 1 where it says to knit 1 do I do that for all of the following rows after that?
Jessica
September 14, 2023After you have 48 stitches on your needle, you will knit row 3.
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Continue knitting that same row pattern over and over and over until you only have 4 stitches left on your needle. Hope that helps!

September 10, 2023What is the name of the multi coloured wash cloth colour? Is it Hobby Lobby ‘I love this cotton’ – A walk in the park? Hobby Lobby blocks international access to their site so it’s a bit difficult to identify. I really like the colours for a comfy cardigan.

September 14, 2023Yes, it is Hobby Lobby’s ‘I Love This Cotton’ yarn! I believe the color is 342 Pink, Green & Purple. Yes, that is the name of the variegated color. A little weird, I know. Another close one to that is Eastern Nova. It is not A Walk in the Park, although that is a pretty one!

November 25, 2023I love this pattern. I have actually used it with a long circular needle to make blankets. Just keep increasing until you can’t handle any more stitches, then start the decreasing. Have used Red Heart worsted weights on size 9 & 10, diff. colors & varieties, stripes or solids, use your imagination. These make up some heavy blankets that are so nice & easy to knit while binge watching your favorite TV shows 😉 on a snowy or cold day 🙂 Just had to share this. Happy knitting to all 🙂
