Free Printable Felt Monster Patterns

We’ve included three monster patterns (skill level for sewing this is *easy*). Download buttons are below – choose your free pattern, click the download button, and the PDF will open in a new tab for you to download and/or print.
To get started, you’ll need just a few basic craft supplies: felt sheets in your favorite colors, fabric scissors, needle and thread (or fabric glue for a no-sew option), polyester stuffing to fill it and get that soft, plush feel, and anything else you want to add to your monster for personality. You can add extra teeth, eyes, some hair – whatever you want to make it your own monster friend!
You’ll also need our free printable felt monster pattern, which makes cutting and assembling the felt pieces really easy. These supplies are budget-friendly and often already on hand in most craft bins—making this a quick and fun project for all ages! Part of the process is making these monsters your very own, so feel free to add extra eyes, horns, etc. to make this the perfect addition to your child’s stuffed animal collection!
To start, grab our easy sewing pattern pdf from the download buttons farther down in this post, print them out, then cut them out of the colors of felt that choose! Each of our felt monster patterns are designed to fit onto an 8″x12″ sheet of felt. You’ll need two of each color for the main body pieces, unless you choose a different color for the back of your monster, which is totally fine!
I ordered THIS SET OF FELT from Amazon because most of the 8″x12″ sheets you’ll find are very stiff felt, and these ones were *not stiff.* They are very soft and perfect for making a mini stuffed monster that younger kids would probably snuggle with. ⬇️

The next step after cutting out your felt monster pieces from our free pattern is to assemble any of the facial features – add the eyes, mouth, teeth, etc. to the front body part of your felt monster. You can do this on your sewing machine if that’s something you’re familiar with, or just grab a needle and embroidery thread and do a basic running stitch to attach eyes, mouth, etc. to the body front. Children may need a little help knotting that embroidery floss/thread to get started, but once they get started and see their monster craft come to life, they will probably whip through getting all those pieces on. 😁
Once all the cute pieces are on the front, you’ll put the back and front body pieces together – *not right sides together like typical sewing patterns call for because we’re not turning this inside out after stitching* – just back to front with the finished front visible. You can do the edges on your sewing machine in a straight stitch if you like, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance, or even do a zig zag stitch. We went with a blanket stitch because we like the look of it. It’s simple once you get started, and the plus side is that it hides the edges of your felt to make a lovely finished product.

How to make a felt monster, detailed step-by-step! ⬇️
- Print and cut paper templates.
- Pin the templates to felt and cut out the pieces.
- Hot glue the eye parts together before glueing the assembled eyes onto the felt body.
- Hot glue mouth, nose, & any other facial features to the felt body. (or stitch a mouth on with a running stitch)
- Separate a 6-strand piece of embroidery floss into two 3-strand sections; thread your embroidery needle, and then knot the long end of your floss.
- Attach the front and back body pieces one stitch from the horn, then attach the horn to the back piece with a running stitch; go back to the first stitch and start blanket stitching along the front piece and the front of the horn (not the back body piece).

7. Start blanket stitching through both body pieces after the horn and continue along the rest of the body, placing stitches closer together around curves.
8. Before closing the last 2-4 inches, stuff with cotton or polyester stuffing, using a pencil to push it down into the arms and legs.
9. Continue stitching to close the body, then tie the embroidery floss off, pull thread through another part of the head, and cut the end.
