My husband loves when Starbucks parades out the holiday drinks this time of year. His favorite is the classic Peppermint Mocha Latte. And it’s one of my personal favorites as well. We both could easily drink a Peppermint Mocha every day! Nothing says it’s the holiday season quite like peppermint 🙂
I came up with this Peppermint Mocha Sauce so I could make my own lattes at home this season.
My husband and I own an espresso machine (just this simple one) and it has made our daily coffee-making feel like a therapeutic experience. Really. I truly enjoy the process of making myself an espresso. The smells, the sounds, the final product . . . so rewarding.
Anyway . . .
I highly recommend making espresso for this drink. Strong brewed coffee would work BUT espresso really is the best option to get the full Peppermint Mocha Latte experience.
You can use any type of milk for this – whole milk, half ‘n’ half, oatmilk, soymilk, etc.
What is a peppermint mocha latte?
According to Starbucks, “The team tried a few different flavors that would resonate with customers during the holiday . . . the team refined the recipe, finding the perfect combination of rich Starbucks espresso with bittersweet mocha sauce, peppermint syrup, and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of red sugar sprinkles.”
How many pumps of syrup are in a Peppermint Mocha Latte?
“A grande peppermint mocha at Starbucks has 4 pumps each of peppermint syrup and mocha sauce.” (NutritionHeartbeat.com)
If you’re using this sauce, use one tablespoon of sauce as one pump of syrup.
- 4 ounces freshly brewed espresso (or strong coffee)
- 4 ounces steamed milk
- 3-4 tablespoons peppermint mocha syrup
- Brew espresso.
- Add in peppermint mocha syrup and stir to combine.
- Add steamed milk and stir until combined.
Depending on how strong you like your coffee to be flavored, you may need to add more syrup. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding more as needed.
